About Me
Game Developer / 2014
Short BioZachary (Zach) is an experienced game developer trained in various software development tools like Microsoft’s Visual Studio, and Blender Foundation’s 3D modeling software Blender. I have 6 years of experience working in the software development field and 4 years of experience as the owner and founder of Alkain Studios. I have delivered training software for use in college-level classrooms such as a VR training program for blind spot safety.
Long BioHello, my name is Zach, I am an indie video game developer and designer. I enjoy playing sandbox and crafting games, as well as watching some anime on the side. My passion is programming, but also the process of making video games.
I enjoy making games but never felt ready to showcase what I could do to the world until recently. My high school had a small class on game design, but I was the only one in that class, including the teacher. Although, I was taking the class I had very little time to learn. Once, I graduated from high school I went straight to work, but not to game design. About half a year later I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life after being fired. It wasn't until RPG Maker VX Ace fell into my lap that I finally figured out what I wanted to do. I had played some modded games before and only looked at those tools. When VX Ace was placed in front of me a very basic game was made having only, an over world, town, cave, and a few houses. It never made it past my friends, mostly because my laptop crashed. However, that didn't stop me from moving forward. After having some fun with VX Ace I decided to try my hand at programming. That was an undertaking, but I had fun with it. I started with ruby, sense that’s what VX Ace used, and from research, was easy to start and learn. Then I started learning JavaScript, C++, C#, and more. I tried to get my hands on as much as I could to learn. I picked up Unity to learn JavaScript, but migrated over to C# shortly after learning more about C#. I wondered around the Unreal Engine to try my hand with that as well.
After working with those engines, I learned that there are indie development companies out there, and wanted to be like that. Making games to share with others. Then somewhere along the line I stumbled across Extra Credits on YouTube, and that changed everything. After that I saw making video games a little differently. I was now sure what I wanted to be, I wanted to be a video game developer. Although my passion is in programming, my dream was to work on video games, I wanted to make the things my friends talked about, and something my family could brag about.
Anyway I guess that’s the long and short of that, so thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed my little life story.
